Saturday, October 23rd, we had a one-day shootout at the Everett YMCA. This was, by far, our most successful tournament we’ve had yet! We ended up with a total of 43 players, and drew players from all over the puget sound! Our draw included 6 women ranging in skill from D to Elite, and we also had four players who are ranked in the top 25 in the state! We had 6 Open level players, 6 Elite players, 14 A players, 13 B players, and 12 C/D players. The competition …

This year’s 2010 Auburn VW Open took place on the weekend of October 8th-10th at Bally Total Fitness in Kent, Washington. It was a Tier-4 IRT Pro stop, and was attended by several top players from the region including Taylor Knoth, Jeff Stark, and Jimmy Lowe and was sponsored once again by Auburn VW and Max Technologies of Seattle.

This year’s Fall Kick-off Tournament only had 72 participants, but you wouldn’t have been able to tell that from the crowds at the tournament. There were quite a few people I talked to who showed up to watch the matches because they couldn’t participate because of work or their children’s schedules conflicting. There was also a pretty good sized group of new players who did very well in their respective divisions.

The 2010 Everett Shootout was a huge success and once again I’d like to thank everyone who came out and participated! We had 27 players, 5 of whom picked the Everett Shootout as their first USRA tournament. We drew players from all skill divisions starting with the 6 who registered in the D division all the way up the 45+ Open draw that had 5 participants. We even had five women and one junior player who came out and played!

20 State Juniors participated on December 5th in this great junior event, where players from Washington vie for honors with the Juniors of British Columbia, Canada. There were upsets and players new to the tournament scene, with 105 matches scheduled to play on Saturday. The courts in Bellingham were full of players from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm. Eleven players from Washington State traveled to Tempe, Arizona to participate in this year’s national doubles event from Feb. 11-15, 2009. Those attending were Dan Baharav, Wanda Collins, JoAnn Johnson, Alan Lawson, Jessica Munoz, Steve Nearants, Beth Neff, Vicki Panzeri, Vivian Rodriguez and Tammarrian Rogers. The 2009 Northwest Open saw  a lot of new faces, from Mens Open to Mens 60+ C/D to Women’s D! It was a busy time in a small space.
