Jacob Allen(Everett): Jacob fought hard for 2nd place in the Boys 10 Singles Red Division, losing in an exciting tiebreaker match against Alan Yepiz of Stockton, CA.
Zachary Allen(Everett): Zach placed 4th in the Boys 8MB Division, with some great competition from California, Texas and Oregon.
Jake Birnel(Bellingham): Took 3nd in Boys 14 Singles Gold Division, losing to the eventual first place winner, Spencer Shoemaker of Ohio. Jake scored more points in their match than anyone else Shoemaker played, and he’ll be looking for a rematch next year. Jake also took 2nd in Boys 14 Doubles with Ryan Francis from the east coast, and he and fellow Washington player Hollie Scott took 2nd in Mixed 14 Doubles. Jake’s finishes allowed him to compete for Team USA at Junior Nationals in the Dominican Republic this summer as well.
Jordan Birnel(Bellingham): Jordan and his brother Nick Birnel claimed 4th place in Boys 12 Doubles, and Jordan placed 2nd in Boys 12 (Singles white division.
Nick Birnel(Bellingham): Nick played a strong tournament, taking first in the Boys 12 Singles Blue Division.
Andrew Burns(Everson): Andrew placed 4th in Boys 10 Singles White Division and 4th Place in 10 Mixed Doubles with Hannah Carver of Spokane.
Tyler Burns(Everson): Due to seeding, Tyler had tough matches against two of the best in the draw in Boys 12 Singles, but came back in Boys 12 Doubles, taking 1st in the Consolation round with partner Ryan Holz of Bellingham. In a third event, Ryan and Hollie Scott claimed 2nd place in Mixed 12 Doubles.
Hannah Carver(Spokane): Hannah brought home 4th place in Girl’s 10 Singles Gold, 4th place in Girl’s 10 Doubles with her sister Megan, and 4th place in 10 Mixed Doubles with Andrew Burns of Washington.
Megan Carver(Spokane): In addition to Megan’s doubles finish with her sister, she posted a 2nd place finish in the Girl’s 10 Singles Red Division, and 3rd place in Mixed 10 Doubles with Jett Guthrie of Washington.
Nick Gallaher(Bellingham): Nick played in some tough divisions at this event, 16 Boy’s Singles and Doubles. He played hard, losing in the quarters. Nick will be on the courts this year to get ready for next year’s Nationals!
Josh Gibson(Spokane): Josh is a newcomer to the tournament scene in Washington and jumped right in to play at Nationals this year. He took home 4th place in Boys 14 Singles White, and we’re looking forward to more play from Josh at tournaments this season.
Brenna Guthrie(Bellingham): Brenna placed 2nd in the Girls 12 Red Division, 3rd in the Girls 12 Doubles division with her partner from Texas.
Jett Guthrie(Bellingham): Jett came into Nationals without a lot of court time practice, but still managed to fair well in competition. He placed 4th in Boys 10 Blue Division, 5th in Boys 10 Doubles with partner Micah Miller, and a 3rd Place finish in Mixed 10 Doubles with partner Megan Carver of Spokane.
Triston Guthrie(Bellingham): Triston had put in his share of hours on the courts to prepare for this event, and found the competition to be all he could handle and more. His loss in the quarterfinals of the red round of Boys 16 Singles was a tough one, and he’ll be looking to improve for next year.
Jeremy Holz(Lynden): Jeremy played through an injury to place 2nd in Boys 10 White Division, as well as competing in the Boys 10 Doubles division with Jacob Allen.
Ryan Holz(Lynden): Ryan had a strong showing at this tournament. He stepped up his game when he needed to and played some of his best ball to date. He grabbled 2nd place in Boys 12 Singles Blue division, losing to Brady Yelverton of Texas, and played great ball to take 1st place in the Boys 12 Doubles Consolation round with Tyler Burns.
Jack Kulju(Seattle): Jack is just coming into his own on the courts, and won two great matches in Boys 12, before losing to the eventual 2nd place finisher, Mauro Rojas. Jack will be heating up the courts this season!
Micah Miller(Bellingham): Micah’s game continues to improve, as he placed 1st in Boys 10 Singles White Division, along with 5th in Boys 10 Doubles with Jett Guthrie.
Jonathan Moore(Bothell): Jonathan also had stiff competition in Boys 16’s. He lost in the quarterfinals of the Red Division, and competed with first time doubles partner Steven Boyle of Oregon in Boys 16 Doubles.
Jessica Munoz(Burlington): This was Jessica’s last year as a junior player at Nationals. She will be continuing to play hard at the Women’s Open level at upcoming events. Jessica had a fine showing, placing 3rd in Girls 18 Singles Gold Division. Jessica and her partner, Amanda Lindsay of Oregon, took first place in Girls 18 Doubles and earned the right to play at Junior Worlds in the Dominican Republic this summer.
Ryan Penders(Puyallup): Ryan played some great singles, taking 3rd place in the Boys 12 Red Singles Division.
Sydney Penders(Puyallup): Where were all of the younger girls? Sydney Penders entered Girls 6 Multi Bounce, and ended up playing in an all boys division of 8 Multi Bounce. Way to go, Sydney! She claims first in Girls 6 Multi Bounce singles, and the playing experience will make her ready for our state junior tourneys.
Hollie Scott(Bellingham): Hollie has been moving up the ranks in the ladies divisions here in Washington and it showed at the tournament. She placed third in the Girls 12 Singles Gold Division, second in Mixed 12 Doubles with Tyler Burns, and second in Mixed 14 Doubles with Jake Birnel. A great showing!
Brannon Shrock(Bellingham): Brannon stepped up to enter Nationals and took home fourth in Boys 12 Singles Red Division as well as playing in Mixed 12 Doubles with Brenna Guthrie.
