Hello Ladies & welcome to the few of you receiving this email for the first time. Here you will hopefully get a glimps of all the many activities and opportunities that are available to Women Racquetball Players in our State. If you thought you were alone, trust me, your not. Our email list just past 225 women!!
THANK YOU To the women who came out to compete at the Kent Doubles event in December!
Good luck to the women participating in the Winter Blast Tournament this weekend in Lynnwood! I hope you all play fantastic! And a special thanks to Pat Lew for running this event.
WPRO Fundraising Tracking:
It is our hopes to bring in the most talented women in the world to come play along side of us at the Puget Sound Challenge Tournament, November 2010 in Olympia. The whole tournament will focus it’s attention on WOMEN, but to get these special ladies here it will take some funding. Here’s how we are doing so far:
Puget Sound Challenge: $800.48
December Play Day: $369
Kent Doubles Tourney: $63
Other Donations coming in: $710
Total Raised so far: $2,022.48 (Goal: $10,000)
How you can help:
- Purchase a Women’s Racquetball Hoodie or T-shirt (sold at almost every event this year)
- Plan to participate in the Texas Holdem’ Tournament March (and bring a date)!
- Send suggestions to me for Corporate Sponsors
- Spread the word!!
Many have asked how to make a personal donation to our cause. If you are feeling generous and want to do so, you can send checks to me, made out to Cheyenne Hayes, 3505 22nd Way NE, Olympia, WA 98506. Every single dollar helps and will help make this WPRO event next year AMAZING for the women**
The next Sanctioned event:
State Doubles Championships!! January 22nd-24th, Seattle. You can get a form online at the WRA website. Take a break from having all the pressure on yourself, grab a partner and come compete for a State Title in many divisions. If you want to play, but don’t have a partner, there are ALWAYS people looking for one. Just contact the tournament director listed on the form ASAP to get one. Be sure to sign up early to help encourage others to participate!!
Our next Play Day:
The next play day will be offered Saturday, February 6th from 12-5pm at the Kent Bally Total Fitness. For those of you who haven’t attended one, these are a TON of fun and super easy going. There is no cost, though we encourage people to donate $5-$10 to our WPRO fundraiser (no donations accepted from first time attendees…we just want you!!). Bring a snack to share, and a friend! No experience is necessary and we generally have extra racquets to lend out. Karen Jaskolka will be heading this one up with the help of a few others and will do a great job! Please email her your RSVP if you can (it really helps to know who’s coming) by Wednesday, Feb. 3rd (or just do it right now if you know you are coming!).
Non-Sanctioned GREAT tournament in Bellingham:
I want to encourage you to attend the non-sanctioned tournament up in Bellingham. There will be a ton of women there, many new faces and we need to support these Bellingham women that keep coming down for us. This is a great 1/2 step into doing full-fledge tournament. It will be worth your time! Here is the information from Wanda regarding the event: BELLINGHAM ATHLETIC CLUB will be hosting our second non sanctioned tournament of the season January 29-31, 2010. This is the Winter Shootout and we will have about 80 players participating. We had 25 – 30 women play in our November tourney, and expect at least that many at this event. We will again be able to offer Women’s events in separate divisions: Open/Elite, A, B, C and D. We can also find you a partner for either women’s doubles or mixed doubles. There are a couple of other good things about this event: 1) You DO NOT have to be a member of the USRA/WRA to participate, 2) the entry fee is only $30, 3) we try our very best to not make you play until Sat morning if you are coming from a long way- over 50 miles, and 4) we have a group of women here in Bellingham that are willing to open up their homes and let you stay to avoid hotel costs. You WILL have fun. Look for entry forms on our club website after Dec. 15 or email me for more into or to have one mailed to you.
Fran Davis, world renowned racquetball coach, will be offering her weekend long camp in Seattle with Jason Mannino. If you are wanting to improve your game, this is a great way to do so. I have attended this camp myself in the past. Her flyer is attached to this email. Here is her website for additional information. Here is a quick note from Fran:
We are running a POST-Holiday Promo….SAVE $100 …the price being $399 instead of $499. Have them put “Holiday Promo ” where it says Discount Code. If they get a group together, 2 or more, have them e-mail me for a SPECIAL group price.
Texas Holden’ Poker Night Fundraiser!!! One of the big events we are doing this season to raise money for the WPRO event in the Fall is a Poker Night. The Date is Saturday, March 6th, 6pm, in Redmond (Karen Jaskolka’s house). Here is what you need to know: This is going to be a BLAST!! We have a professional dealer coming!! This is for ANYONE (you don’t have to be a girl, or a racquetball player….me and my hubby are making a date of it) We will have GREAT food! The buy in is $40. We can only accept 30 people (unless we change venues). You MUST RSVP for this event by FEBRUARY 5th (the sooner the better). You won’t want to miss this! RSVP’s for this event are going to Karen.
Don’t forget that you can access all this information and more on our State Racquetball Website.
I think that is all for now! Please let us know if there is anything we can do to support your racquetball hobbie!
